Monk is probably the greatest cop show ever and I love it.

Congratulations to Tony Shalhoub for winning the 2003 Golden Globe for best performance by an actor in a television series - Musical or Comedy!
The other nimonees where Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm, Matt Leblanc from Friends, Bernie Mac from The Bernie Mac Show, and Eric McCormack from Will & Grace.

Overview
This show is kind of hard to explain unless you have seen it but I will do my best. Monk (Tony Shalhoub) is a detective well an ex-detective. When his wife is murdered he becomes obsessive-compulsive which causes him to be afraid a virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds, ect. This disease causes him to lose his job thus the ex-detective part. Although Monk is no longer part of the police force his former boss, Captain Stottlemeyer, often calls upon him to solve the crimes that no one else understands. Monk is almost like a Sherlock Holmes if Sherlock had an obsessive-compulsive disorder. The show is kind of a drama but is also really pretty funny. Anyone that hasn't seen this show just watch it.

ADRIAN MONK (Tony Shalhoub)
Adrian Monk was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional methods and out-of-the-box thinking to solve some of the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic (and still unsolved) murder of his wife, a devastated Monk became obsessive-compulsive. Now plagued by various phobias, almost everything causes him angst: germs, heights, crowds - even milk. His condition eventually cost him his job, and continuously poses unique challenges as he goes about his daily life. He is in therapy for his condition, but signs of progress in overcoming his psychological disorder are spotty at best. Now working as a private consultant, Monk continues to investigate various cases using his vast intelligence and unconventional approaches. However, Monk would like nothing more than to gain back his position on the force. Can he pull himself together and get back to solving San Francisco's toughest crimes full time?

SHARONA FLEMING (Bitty Schram)
Sharona is Monk's personal assistant and nurse, a calming influence who helps him make it through the day. She is always on hand to offer her assistance when even the simplest of tasks become angst-ridden ordeals for Monk. An utterly dedicated employee who often becomes fiercely defensive when it comes to her boss, she also becomes Monk's own "Girl Friday," an unlikely but effective Dr. Watson to his Sherlock Holmes.

CAPTAIN LELAND STOTTLEMEYER (Ted Levine)
Captain Stottlemeyer is Monk's former boss, the man who was forced to let Monk go from the San Francisco Police Department when his obsessive compulsive disorder began to interfere with his ability to investigate cases and interact with his fellow officers. But even though he is no longer a member of the force, Stottlemeyer still often calls on Monk to provide his unique insights into cases that have San Francisco's finest stumped. Although Stottlemeyer is a highly decorated detective, he knows he will never be as good as the illustrious Monk - and that fact often drives him crazy.

LIEUTENANT RANDALL DISHER (Jason Gray-Stanford)
Lt. Disher plays a figurative "boy Friday" to Captain Stottlemeyer. More ambitious than bright, Disher relishes every opportunity to bolster the ego and reputation of his commanding officer. He is often the first to rebuff Monk's sometimes outlandish deductions, and can also never resist the opportunity to taunt Monk's "Watson," Sharona.
